As a first time home buyer I was pleased to hear that my HOA fee was less than $50 a month when I bought my home five years ago. Of course it’s $65 a month now, and I’m sure it will continue to increase. Especially since there is an article on the front page of FSR’s website right now titled “Can An HOA Raise Dues Without Notice? Five Benefits Of Raising HOA Dues”.
I diligently read through the CC&R documents, and was happy to see fairly reasonable terms that would keep the neighborhood looking nice and ensure that we all remained good neighbors. What I failed to do was look into whether the HOA and the management company were fairly enforcing these rules. Big Mistake.
I’ve fought with the board and the management company for nearly a year now about their absurd fines for violations that were never violations in the first place. You can read about that on the Violations Page.
At this time I am left with no other choice but to take the matter to court. And if I’m going to go through all the hassle of of a court case, I might as well document everything and teach everyone else how to do it too. Maybe if we all sue First Service Residential, they’ll change their approach simply to avoid losing money. If we’re lucky they’ll quit working with Spring Mountain Ranch altogether and we can get a better management company.
But our HOA board will play a big part in that, they are the ones who chose FSR in the first place, and continue to work with them despite their horrible reputation. They are also the ones who refuse to correct any of FSR’s mistakes, despite having the power to do so.
So part of my goal here will also be to get these HOA board members replaced and make sure the world knows what a miserable job they’ve done. Perhaps we’ll even uncover more than just a desire for power and a lack of empathy for their fellow man. I have a forensic accountant looking into the finances as we speak and I’ll post an update when that is done as well.
